The village's population is Maronite Christian, reflecting the rich tapestry of Lebanon's religious communities. Situated at an elevation of around 1,020 meters (3,349 feet) above sea level, Majdel Meouch offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. The village's name, derived from Aramaic and Syriac origins, translates to "The Tower of Salvation," hinting at its historical significance as a place of refuge and spiritual importance.
In the rich history of Majdel Meouch, two eminent Maronite Patriarchs, Patriarch Douaihy and Patriarch Makhlouf, left an indelible mark on the spiritual and cultural landscape of the village.
Patriarch Douaihy, often referred to as the "Historian Patriarch," is remembered for his profound contributions to the Maronite Church and the documentation of its history.
During their refuge from persecution to the Village both Patriarchs founded Saint George Church and Our Lady Church that remains enduring symbols of faith, standing proudly in the heart of the village as reminders of Majdel Meouch's deep-rooted Christian heritage and the visionary leadership of Patriarch Douaihy and Patriarch Makhlouf. Their legacy continues to inspire faith, unity, and resilience among the community to this very day.
